All I need is for some jerk to catch me carrying this book around and get the wrong idea.

 

# catch someone ving

 

1) My parents caught me watching porn.

2) I got caught reading her journal.

3) I caught my boyfriend checking on my phone without my permission.

 

# get the wrong idea

 

1) Please don't get the wrong idea.

2) I don't want you to get the wrong idea.

3) You are just too nice. He's gonna get the wrong idea.

4) You have to tell the truth or else, they are going to get the wrong idea about you.

 

 

The other thing I want to clear up right away is that this was mom's idea, not mine.

 

# clear up : to explain or solve ( a mystery or misunderstanding) clarify / 여기서는 명확하게하다 또는 해명하다 의미

 

1) I want to clear this up one more time.

2) There are a coupl of points we need to clear up before the meeting begins.

3) Let's clear this up. Are you or are you not happy to see me?

4) We're best friends. Were. Okay let's clear this up once and for all.

Let me just say for the record that I think middl school is the dumbest idea ever invented

 

# say for the record : 자신의 의견을 강조할 때 쓰는 말로, '분명히 말하자면', '그러니까 내말은', '확실히 말해두는데'

 

1) Let's me say for the record that he is not my type.

2) I just want to say, for the record, I did not kill anyone.

3) I would like to say, for the record,  I didn't talk behind your back.

 

 

# invent : 발명하다 이외에 to think of an idea, story that is not true /사실이 아닌 것을 지어내다는 의미가 있다.

 

# (hit) growth spurt : 갑자기 키가 크는 시기

 

1)

a: Is this all your clothes?

b: Yup, everything since the eighth grade.

a: The eighth grade?

b: My last growth spurt : 그 때 키가 멈췄어 

 

2) When was your last growth spurt?

3) I hope I get my growth spurt soon.

4) I haven't hit my growth spurt yet.

5) I hit a growth spurt early.

 

If it was up to me, grade levels would be based on height, not age.

 

# be up to somebody : somebody가 결정할 일이다

 

1) It's not up to you to tell me how to do my job.

2) If it was up to me, I would make a different decision.

3) a: what are you gonna name her? b: Not up to me.

we're just waiting around for the tacher to hurry up ~

 

# wait around for ~ : 하는 일 없이 빈둥 거리면서 ~를 기다리다

1) I was waiting around for my freind.

2) I just have been waiting around for my phone to ring all day.

 

so I figured I migth as well wrie in this book to pass the time

 

# pass the time : 시간을 보내다, 시간을 때우다

 

1) I am just passing the time.

2) What do you usually do to pass the time.

3) While my mom was shopping, I just waited around for her with my phone.

 

You walk into the classroom and just plunk your stuff down on any old desk

 

# plunk something down : 툭 놓는 느낌 / to put or place something somewhere especialy in noisy, sudden or careless way.

something이 돈일 경우에는 큰 돈을 턱턱 내는 느낌

 

1) When I came home from school, I went right into my room and plunk my bag down onto my bed.

2) Tou expect the rich to plunk down thousands of dollars.

 

I stopped that from happening at the last second
